Lets see if we can get 100 shares for this post to expose PETA for what they really are: evil. Most of us know this already but your friends may not. Penn and Teller did a great expose of them a few years back. But not everyone knows.
In today's Independent they give column space to the associate UK director of PETA to espouse utter crap about the Grand National. When there are 90 000 races a year made by horses in the UK it's statistically impossible not to lose some. Horses break legs sometimes and they can't be repaired in most cases. This also happens to horses in the field when they aren't racing. And without the high welfare racing gives to horses in general, the fate for thoroughbreds would be apalling. Only when a horse is badly injured do vets and owners take the reluctant decision to euthanise it. It's a statistically very small number 0.2%. And then only if there is no hope of saving it humanely. This is something everyone who knows about horses has to accept and it happens on every livery yard to just pet horses every year too.
HOWEVER. While the average racehorse is the recipient of between several tens and several hundreds of thousands of pounds in its lifetime for the sole purpose of it's care, and everything time you have a bet or pay to go to a racecourse it contributes a small amount to that, here is what PETA do with money you give them. Unlike racing, PETA do this to HEALTHY animals. 29 450 in the last 11 years DWARFING the relatively low number of racing casualties. If you were a horse would YOU entrust with your care? It may come as a surprise to you but not to tbose of us who know of PETA real agenda . They are an extremist ideological organisation that thinks all animal domestication INCLUDING PET OWNERSHIP is immoral and believe all these animals should be neutered out of existence. So you know what PETA would do to racehorses if the sport was banned. Because you can see they won't even look after a healthy puppy or kitten with their vast financial resources given to them by people who think they are helping animals.
HELP STOP THIS BARBARIC ORGANISATION WHO PRETEND TO HELP ANIMALS WHEN REALLY THEY ARE ENGAGED IN THEIR SLAUGHTER. SHARE.
If you are unsure about racing, (please note it is a very transparent activity and you can find anything you need to know here http://www.britishhorseracing.com/bha/ask-bha-faqs/#!/86 Or perhaps look at the FB profiles of racing stables on FB to see the amazing care they have). Or consider the £25 million that Horse Racing via the BHA has contributed to equine veterinary science alleviating suffering for all sorts of equines, in the same eleven years that PETA has killed these 29 450 mostly healthy animals. But even if actual evidence doesn't sway you, please see what PETA are. Every pet owner needs to stand shoulder to shoulder against them . "Pet ownership is an absolutely abysmal situation brought about by human manipulation." Ingrid Newkirk, national director, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)
They are truly the ones exploiting animals making vast sums of money from them from the hard of thinking with a disgusting ideology and killing those given them to provide shelter for.
Without racing thoroughbred horses would likely be another meat animal like their ungulate cousins cattle, or if PETA get their way total oblivion. But they aren't ever going to get their way because it's time their evil nonsense was stopped.
You can start the backlash against PETA by having a bet on the Grand National on Saturday and if you really care about racehorses you can always make a donation to Greatwood or World Horse Welfare. Be secure in the knowledge that if they run the Grand National for TEN THOUSAND YEARS not anywhere near as many animals will die as have under PETA care in the last ELEVEN years.
