Belle Couture, the half-sister to Black Caviar, won her first race in the Anniversary Plate (1200m) at Caulfield on Monday.
The three-year-old filly showed she may live up to the hype surrounding her, with a strong finish to beat home Bob Keirl-trained Knockout Johnny by two and a quarter lengths, with Ciaron Maher-trained Barkley Boy a half neck away third.
The filly pleased both her trainer Danny O’Brien and jockey Damien Oliver when she came from tenth at the 400 metre mark to let down and finish over the top of her rivals.
"She was travelling well and and she felt she was going to unleash a good finish,” said Oliver after the race.
Trainer Danny O’Brien was very happy with the daughter of Redoute’s Choice and is hoping she can continue to improve.
"She was very doughy to begin with, she is a big girl, but she is now a lot more athletic and is getting there as a racehorse,” O’Brien said.
CHAMPION racemare Black Caviar has safely delivered her first foal after giving birth to a filly by Exceed And Excel.
The bay filly, who has a small white marking on her forehead and small white socks on her front feet, arrived early on Saturday after a smooth birth.
Announcing her arrival, Black Caviar's part-owner Neil Werrett said in a statement: "She was a champion on the track and she's proved to be a champion mum with the safe arrival of her first foal overnight.
"We're incredibly proud that she's given birth to a filly and equally delighted that both Black Caviar and her foal are healthy and doing well.
"We wish to thank the team that have nurtured her so well throughout her pregnancy and ensured the safe delivery of the filly.
"Black Caviar was the people's horse and we are looking forward to sharing this filly's journey with the people of Australia.
"It will be a long and patient road from birth to racetrack so at this time we are revelling in the excitement of being proud parents."
After hearing the news, Black Caviar’s former trainer Peter Moody tweeted: "So pleased to hear of the safe arrival of Nelly's first foal."
